Dodilo (also Duodelin ) († 980 ) was Bishop of Brandenburg from 965/968 to 980 .

Life

Dodilo is considered the second bishop of the Brandenburg diocese. It was consecrated in Erfurt by Archbishop Wilhelm of Mainz and Bishop Erkanbald of Strasbourg . The possible date was between September 26, 965 and March 2, 968.

In autumn 968 he took part in Adalbert's elevation to Archbishop of Magdeburg . At the same time the first bishops of Merseburg , Zeitz and Meißen were ordained by the archbishop and a papal envoy. Otto I. ordered that he and Bishop Dudo von Havelberg sign the protocol of the election of the archbishop and swear allegiance to it.

For unknown reasons, Dodilo was strangled by people around him in 980. His body was taken from the grave by the conquerors during the Slav uprising in 983 , plundered and buried again, as Thietmar von Merseburg reported.
