Background: Audi pavilion

The fragrance tunnel is a work of art and a girder bridge by the Danish artist Ólafur Elíasson . It is located within the Autostadt in Wolfsburg in Lower Saxony . The fragrance tunnel was completed in 2000 as a decentralized project of the World Exhibition Expo 2000 in Hanover . It was a project of the "EXPO Ostwestfalen-Lippe".

The fragrance tunnel is 15 meters long, the diameter is 4.5 meters, the total weight is approx. 19 tons.

With it, art, nature and technology should be brought to life. The installation primarily deals with physical phenomena in nature - such as light and water, movement and reflection.

As a walkable pedestrian bridge over a body of water, it should represent a designed space and a sculpture in one. 2160 clay pots planted with flowers and hung in a grid structure slowly rotate around the visitor in their longitudinal axis, enveloping them in the scent of flowers. The planting of the fragrance tunnel is coordinated with the seasons and flowering times, so that the visitor can always experience new sensory impressions.

The season starts with the flowering of the gold lacquer at the beginning of April, followed by horn violets , vanilla flowers , mountain mints , lavender and sage .
