Duke of Chandos

Duke of Chandos was a hereditary British title in the Peerage of Great Britain .

The Dukes' family seat was Sudeley Castle near Winchcombe in Gloucestershire , England.

The title was bestowed on April 29, 1719 to James Brydges, 1st Earl of Carnarvon . Together with the Dukedom he was awarded the subordinate title of Marquess of Carnarvon . Already on October 19, 1714 he had been elevated to Earl of Carnarvon and Viscount Wilton and on October 16, 1714, his father had the title Baron Chandos , of Sudeley in the County of, created on April 8, 1554 in the Peerage of England Inherited Gloucester .

The titles expired in 1789, when the 3rd duke died. The son-in-law of the late 3rd Dukes, the 2nd Marquess of Buckingham , was raised to Duke of Buckingham and Chandos in 1822 .
