Dumisani Ngulube

Dumisani "Dumi" Ngulube (born November 5, 1969 in Bulawayo , † September 13, 2010 in Chiweshe , Mashonaland Central ) was a Zimbabwean pianist, singer and music teacher of Afro jazz and Ndebele music.

Live and act

In addition to the piano, Ngulube also played marimba , mbira , guitar , keyboard , trumpet and congas . He grew up in Bulawayo and began his musical career as a child when he performed as a pianist at the Mzilikazi Youth Center in 1977 . In 1986 he became a member of the Amakhosi Theater, where he worked as an actor and musician. In the following years he appeared as a jazz musician in Harares Club Jazz 105 , where he gave concerts with his formation Amagents . From 1989 he studied ethnomusicology at the Zimbabwe College of Music . After graduating from 1991 to 2002 he taught marimba, percussion, drums and keyboards there; he also worked as a music teacher at various high schools. In 1999 his debut album Amagents was released . The album Afro Dictionary was created in 2007 in collaboration with producer Flash Gordon . He also worked with the poet Chirikure Chirikure and with Ray Mawerera . Dumi released a number of albums under his own name, such as Tshonalanga, African Motion, Hlupo, Nyevero, Zvinhu Zvangu and Chiriko . He died in a hospital in Chiweshe on his return to Harare .
