Stupid German

In the 1980s , two collections of words that were viciously critical of language were called Dummdeutsch . The aim of the two volumes was to expose the “creeping messing up” of the language, the “verbal muddle of impressions” and “veiling German” in politics and other areas. The German language of the previous years was characterized by the fact that it generated markedly “stupid”, i.e. superfluous, illogical or disguised words and phrases, both in the form of new uses and new coining. The writers , editors of the satirical magazine Titanic , commented on some of the words and phrases that were fashionable in the 1970s and 1980s. In particular, Eckhard Henscheid turned against an jargon, which he in the features section , in advertising accounted for and business, in the "Psycho scene" in the mass media and contemporary intellectuals and to which he as expressions dismay , anger and grief , self-realization or feeling counted . Both volumes were well received by the public and critics.
