Dunsyre Hill

The Dunsyre Hill is a hill in the Pentland Hills . The 401 m high elevation is one of the southernmost peaks of the approximately 25 km long range of hills in the Scottish Council Area South Lanarkshire .

The hamlet of Dunsyre is about a kilometer south. The closest localities are about eight kilometers northeast of West Linton . The surrounding hills include the Left Law in the northwest and the Bleak Law in the north.

The east and southeast flanks of Dunsyre Hill are terraced . The graduation, presumably serving agricultural purposes, extends between heights of around 270 and 330 m. Despite the erosion, it is still clearly visible today.

Surroundings

The Anston Burn flows along the western flank and flows into the South Medwin below Dunsyre . The Dunsyre Burn , which runs along the eastern slopes, also flows into the South Medwin.

On the top of the Dunsyre Hills there is a cairn around 15 m in diameter and 1.8 m high . Although various capstones are scattered around the area, the center of the cairn is undisturbed. A 14 cm long stone ax with a pointed shaft was found south of the summit. Since 1955 it has been part of the collection of the National Museum of Antiquities of Scotland .
