Left Law

The Left Law is a hill in the Pentland Hills . The 360 m high elevation is one of the southernmost peaks of the approximately 25 km long range of hills in the Scottish Council Area South Lanarkshire .

The hamlet of Dunsyre is about three kilometers southeast. The closest localities are Carnwath, about eight kilometers southwest, and West Linton , nine kilometers northeast. The surrounding hills include Harrows Law in the north, Bleak Law in the northeast and Dunsyre Hill in the southeast.

Surroundings

Several brooks arise on the flanks of Left Law. The West Ruther Burn flows off the northern slopes, between the peaks of Bleak Law and Left Law . This flows not far from Newbigging into the North Medwin , one of the two source streams of the Medwin Waters . After a short stretch, this joins the middle reaches of the Clydes . The Anston Burn, which flows off the southern slopes, flows into the South Medwin below Dunsyre .

An area of around ten hectares with around 45 small cairns is located on the southern slopes of Left Law . However, these are believed to be more recent and of no historical significance. No signs of burial sites were found in any of the Cairns. A slightly higher field comprises about ten cairns with an average diameter of around three meters and heights of half a meter. They are probably not of historical importance either and are likely to be of agricultural origin.
