Duplicati is software that creates encrypted , compressed , incremental data backups and transfers them to network drives, integrated or external USB hard drives or online storage.

Provider and usage

The supported protocols and online backup destinations include: SSH , WebDAV , FTP , Tahoe LAFS, Amazon S3 , Microsoft OneDrive , Rackspace Cloud Files and many more. Duplicati is available as a program with a graphical user interface and as a command line program. The software requires .NET and runs on Windows, Mac OS X and Linux (via Mono ). Duplicati is open source software and is licensed under LGPL . Duplicati is also available in a portable version without installation and without admin rights.

history

Duplicati started with the aim of creating a graphical user interface for the “Duplicity” program. This included porting the source code to Windows. In September 2008 the original goal was discarded and a new implementation began. The components used in Duplicity such as rdiff , ftp etc. have also been replaced. The first version available was Duplicati 1.0 and was released in June 2009. Version 1.3 was actively developed until 2013. Since the beginning of 2013, work has been concentrated on version 2.0.
