The Dupont's lark ( Chersophilus duponti ) is a species of the family of larks (Alaudidae).

description

Dupont lark

With a length of about 19 centimeters, it is one of the larger larks. The most striking feature of the red-brown colored bird is the long, slender, downward-curved beak. The outer tail feathers are white. There is a light eye stripe on the head.

Way of life

The dupont lark lives in semi-deserts with wild thyme and other scrub. She is often very upright, which makes her appear particularly slim. The nasal-sounding singing is often performed at great heights while singing. Otherwise, the shy bird seldom flies and usually hides in cover.

Distribution and existence

The dupont lark breeds in Spain (especially Aragon ), Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia and western Egypt. The inventory was estimated at 13,600 to 20,000 copies worldwide in 2008.

Systematics

Chersophilus duponti is the only species in the genus. It contains 2 subspecies:

  • Ch. D. duponti ( Vieillot , 1824) - Morocco, northern Algeria, Spain
  • Ch. D. margaritae ( Koenig, AF , 1888) - Algeria, Tunisia, Libya, western Egypt
