The Duque de Caxias Futebol Clube , usually only briefly referred to as Duque de Caxias , is a football club from Duque de Caxias , an industrial city with around 850,000 inhabitants located around 20 km northwest of Rio de Janeiro . The club was founded on February 22, 1957 as Tamoio Futebol Clube . Its city rivals are the Tigres do Brasil .
As Tamoio, the club based in the Xerém district had no significant successes and remained inferior at the state level. On March 8, 2005, the club was renamed Duque de Caxias FC with the idea of popularizing the city's name.
In 2006, the club rose to the second division of the state league for the first time. , Which was enough for a place in 2008 in the national third division in 2007 occupied Duque de Caxias in the State Cup in Rio de Janeiro, the Copa Rio, the 6th Place Série C to obtain. In the same year a 6th place was enough in the second division of Rio for promotion to the first state division, as this was increased to 16 clubs.

Stadion
The club plays its home games in general as Marrentão known club's Estádio Romário de Souza Faria from. The stadium, named after the footballer of the same name, replaced the Estádio Mestre Telê Santana called Maracanãzinho in 2007 . The stadium was inaugurated in December 2007 with a game against CR Vasco da Gama , which ended 1-1. In January of the following year Duque de Caxias lost the first official game in their new home country with 1: 2 against Cardoso Moreira FC with 1: 2. After the Marrentão was initially only opened for 4,000 spectators, since October 2008 all 10,000 seats can be used.
