Durnovarian Group
The Durnovarian Group ( Durnovarian Group or Durnovarian School ) is the modern name for a group of mosaics that were found in the south-west of England and have so much in common that it can be assumed that they all come from one workshop. This workshop was probably located in or near Durnovaria . This school was first postulated by DJ Smith. Figurative scenes are typical of this school, whereas otherwise geometric patterns dominate mosaics in Britain . Mythological scenes and hunting scenes are particularly popular , as are rows of dolphins . The compositions of the mosaics are generally rather simple with a central round picture and a field division of nine circles or squares. The workshop created its work in the fourth century AD.
