The Dusit Zoo ( Thai สวนสัตว์ดุสิต , IPA: [ sŭan-sàt dù-sìt ]) was the oldest zoological garden in Bangkok . It was in the Dusit district .
history
The Dusit Zoo was created in 1938 by the Bangkok City Council at the suggestion of Prime Minister Plaek Phibulsongkram . The area was made available by the Thai King Ananda Mahidol (Rama VIII.) , At the time it was part of the large gardens (Khao Din Wana - เขาดินวนา ), which had been established by King Chulalongkorn (Rama V) as a private botanical garden.
In February 1954 the Dusit Zoo was transferred to the Zoological Park Organization together with the facilities in Chiang Mai , Chonburi , Songkhla and Nakhon Ratchasima .
At the beginning of 2007, the Thai government announced a plan to relocate the Dusit Zoo to the outskirts of the capital in order to make more space available for the facilities.
The zoo was closed on September 30, 2018.
