The Dustin Island is a 30 km long island in front of the Eights Coast of the West Antarctic Ellsworthlands . It is located 24 km southeast of Cape Annawan on Thurston Island and represents the southeastern boundary of Seraph Bay . In the western part of the north coast of Dustin Island is the Ehlers Knob , a small, icy hill.
It was discovered by the US polar explorer Richard Evelyn Byrd , head of the United States Antarctic Service Expedition (1939-1941), during an overflight on February 27, 1940. Byrd named the island after Frederick G. Dustin (1910-1987), a Member of Byrd's Second Antarctic Expedition (1933–1935) and mechanic on the United States Antarctic Service Expedition.
