Dutum

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Dutum is a district in the southwest of the Westphalian Emsstadt Rheine . Dutum has 3,227 inhabitants (Dec. 2014)

The place, a village peasantry, is - according to the general assumption of the name researchers - like all places whose names end in "home", arose in the course of "Franconian state colonization " (in the 12th century Duttenheim ). The Frankish King Charlemagne used to build Frankish settlements around castles or strategically important points during the Saxon War. He settled members of the occupation forces (in Sachsenland) as farmers. There are numerous such home place names in the Rheine area to the left of the Ems. There are names for Esch settlements almost everywhere that are mentioned in documents as early as the 12th century. This applies to both Dutum and the present-day Rhine district of Wadelheim, the neighboring towns of Landersum (1032 Landrikashem), and others.
