dvd :: rip is in Perl programmed, free Graphical User Interface ( GTK + ) for copying of DVDs . To process the image and sound data, the program relies on the “ transcodeutility collection, among other things . dvd :: rip runs on the Linux operating system as well as on FreeBSD , OpenBSD and other Unix derivatives .

Functions

dvd :: rip can save films directly from the DVD to a hard drive . The program supports the formats AVI , Ogg and MPEG . Any number of audio tracks can be stored in the container , whereby these can either be taken over unchanged, but there is also the option of transcoding the audio tracks with audio codecs such as MP3 or Ogg Vorbis . Existing subtitles in the original can be removed, copied directly onto the image material or exported to a separate file. To check the selected configuration, the output can be viewed as a preview in a media player . In order to accelerate the program flow, the cluster mode can be activated, through which the load is distributed over several computers .
