Dwijendralal Ray

Dwijendralal Ray ( Bengali : দ্বিজেন্দ্রলাল রায় Dbijendralāl Rāẏ ; * July 16, 1864 in Krishnanagar , Bengal ; † May 19, 1913 ) was an Indian poet , especially the author of historical and social dramas and the composer of around 500 pieces of music, mostly national freedom songs and bhajans who made him the idol of the young freedom fighters of Bengal at the turn of the century.

Life

Ray was married to Surabala Devi († 1903), had a son, Dilip Kumar Roy (1897–1980), also a successful musician, and a daughter, Maya.
