Dyfri Williams

Dyfri JR Williams (born February 8, 1952 ) is a British classical archaeologist .

Williams studied at Oxford University , where he received his PhD in 1978 with The Antiphon Painter and his Followers . Since 1979 he has worked at the antiquities department of the British Museum , from 1993 to 2007 he was its director as Keeper of Greek and Roman Antiquities . He has been Research Keeper there since December 2007 .

His main areas of research are Attic vase painting , Greek goldsmithing and questions about the history of collections.

Williams is a Corresponding Member of the German Archaeological Institute and a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries of London .
