EFS Hausgeräte GmbH , based in Duisburg, was a German subsidiary of the former Italian ARDO group (Antonio Merloni) that manufactured white goods . The name was an abbreviation for the three German brands EBD (Erwin Bonn Duisburg), Foron and Seppelfricke .

EFS

EFS was founded in November 2001 as the successor to EBD and manufactured a wide variety of white goods products in the cooking and baking , cooling and freezing , washing and drying segments .

In 2001, EFS generated 69 million euros with 160 employees. On December 18, 2009, a preliminary insolvency administrator was appointed to EFS. In March 2012, EFS Hausgeräte was deleted from the commercial register.

Some of the historical roots of the three brands go back to the 19th century. The EBD production facilities in Duisburg , Foron in Scharfenstein and Seppelfricke in Gelsenkirchen were closed when EFS relocated its production to other European countries.

Antonio Merloni (ARDO)

EFS was owned by the Italian Antonio Merloni SpA (ARDO) . In 2008, the ARDO group Antonio Merloni was hit so badly by the global financial crisis that it was placed under receivership and declared insolvent. Despite plant closings and sales of production facilities, plans to resume operations could not be realized. The company Antonio Merloni has been in liquidation since then, but still owns the trademark rights of the former German subsidiary EFS Hausgeräte with the brands EBD (Erwin Bonn Duisburg), Foron and Seppelfricke.

EBD

Erwin Bonn

EBD (Erwin Bonn Duisburg) is a former manufacturer of large household appliances. The company was founded on September 1st, 1934 as a representative for washing machines and their accessories. In 1950 the company manufactured the first laundry presses and wooden tub machines, which went into series production from 1957 under the name “Meisterstück”. The “Meisterstück” was a well-known brand name among wooden tub machines and laundry presses in the 1950s and 1960s. EDB has also been selling the Merloni brand for the German market since the 1970s as an inexpensive alternative. Antonio Merloni acquired the company in 1994 and converted it into EFS in 2001 as part of the merger of Seppelfricke and Foron.

Seppelfricke

Seppelfricke was taken over after bankruptcy in December 2000.
