EMILY's List

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

EMILY's List is a US Political Action Committee that supports Democratic Party candidates who advocate the right to abortion .

EMILY is an acronym for “Early Money Is Like Yeast”, based on the saying “Early money is like yeast: it helps the dough rise” (“dough” means dough, but is also colloquially for Money). The saying goes that in an American election campaign, early donations are important in order to convince more potential donors.

EMILY's List was founded in 1985 by 25 women around Ellen Malcolm .

In the primary campaigns of 2008 and 2016 , EMILY's List supported Senator Hillary Clinton . She withdrew her support from Lucy Flores , a Nevada politician, after she declared herself for Bernie Sanders , and instead promoted an internal party candidate.

Another EMILY's List has existed in Australia since the end of 1996. The group, which is close to the Labor Party , was inspired by the concept and name of the Americans. In addition to the right to an abortion, her goals are the general promotion of equality between men and women. She also supports female candidates in their struggle for offices and mandates.
