ESV turbine Greifswald

The ESV turbine Greifswald (complete: energy sports club turbine Greifswald eV ) was founded in 1952 as BSG Turbine Greifswald in the Hanseatic and university town of Greifswald founded. The members mainly included employees from the energy industry and later workers and engineers from the “ Bruno Leuschnernuclear power plant in nearby Lubmin .

History of the club

In the mid-1970s, a leisure volleyball team was added to the other departments ( bowling , billiards , gymnastics ) . This played from the beginning of the 1980s in the city league. Because of some newcomers from 1982, the level of the team increased . The number of club members continued to grow.

Athletic career

  • 1989 - a team called Turbine I and Turbine Freizeit (later Turbine II) was established. In the following years the strength of the teams got better and better.
  • 1991 - Turbine I is district champion promotion to the district class east
  • 1992 - Turbine I wins the district class without losing a game and is promoted to the district league East
  • 1993 - Turbine I 6th place in the district league
  • 1994 - Turbine I 3rd place in the district league; Turbine II becomes district champion and moves up to the district class east
  • 1995 - Turbine I 1st place in the regional league east and promotion to the regional league; Turbine II holds the district class
  • 1996 - Turbine I 6th place in the regional league; Turbine II wins the district class East and is promoted to the District League East
  • 1997 - Turbine I 6th place in the regional league; Turbine II 8th place in the district league
  • 1998 - Turbine I 8th place in the regional league and relegation to the district league; Turbine II 8th place in the district league
  • 1999 - Turbine II is 3rd in the district league and is promoted to the regional league (renamed Turbine I); Turbine I is 6th in the district league (renamed Turbine II)
  • 2000 - Turbine I finished 6th in the regional league; Turbine II continues to play in the district league
  • 2001 - Turbine I finished 7th in the regional league; In spite of everything, the last Turbine II remains in the district league.
  • 2002 - Both turbine teams reach 8th place in their division. Turbine I managed to stay in the regional league. The "Unabsteigbaren" Turbine II also remains in the District League East.
  • October 2, 2002 - The association celebrates its 50th anniversary.
  • 2006 - Turbine I is 1st in the Association League and wins the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern State Cup
  • 2006 - Turbine I Men is promoted to the regional league for the first time.
  • 2008 - Turbine I wins the state cup again
  • 2009 - Turbine I men wins state championship, Turbine I women is promoted to the association league for the first time

beach volleyball

The ESV Turbine Greifswald has been organizing ranking tournaments in the Hanseatic City of Greifswald since 1996 as part of the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania series. Since 2001, another equally recognized and popular ranking tournament has been taking place in the Baltic seaside resort of Karlshagen on Usedom , the Usedom Beach Cup , which was also launched by ESV Turbine Greifswald. With over 600 participants and 50 beach volleyball fields each, the two tournaments are among the largest beach volleyball events in Germany and Europe. In 2006 the number of participants in Karlshagen was again exceeded with around 800 athletes. This year ESV Turbine also hosted the German university championships in beach volleyball. In 2007 and 2008 the beach volleyball tournament in Karlshagen was mentioned in the Guinness Book of Records as the world's largest event of its kind.
