Usedom Beach Cup
The Usedom Beach Cup (UBC) is one of the largest beach volleyball tournament events in the world and, according to the Guinness Book of Records, was the world's largest tournament of its kind in 2007 and 2008. This beach volleyball event takes place annually with national and international participation on the beach of the Baltic Sea resort of Karlshagen on the island Usedom in the Vorpommern-Greifswald district. In 2020 the Usedom Beach Cup will take place from July 31st to August 2nd.
The first Usedom Beach Cup was organized by ESV Turbine Greifswald in May 2000 as a preparatory tournament for the beach volleyball championships of the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania Volleyball Association (VMV) . In 2001 the UBC was held for the first time as a ranking tournament of the VMV and with 292 participants it was the largest tournament of the association until then. The number of participants rose continuously in the following years and in 2008 exceeded the number of 1,000 participating athletes for the first time. In addition to ESV Turbine Greifswald, the event has been supported by an association since 2005. In 2009, the number of participants had to be limited to 120 men's and 96 women's teams for organizational reasons.
The main sponsor of the event has been the mobile communications group Telefónica Germany since 2008 . The heat supply and contracting group of companies Danpower has been the main sponsor of the Usedom Beach Cup since 2016 .
