ETSAN is the brand name of an Austrian supermarket chain, with locations mainly in Vienna . It is operated by BASAK Handels-GmbH . In its branches, ETSAN offers a full range of around 5,000 items with a focus on ethnic products . On Great Green Market in Vienna, the headquarters and a is Cash & Carry store resident.

history

First site (1986) still functioning under the name Aksoy

The company was opened in 1986 by Hüseyin Ünal at the age of 26 as a small grocer under the name "AKSOY" in Vienna- Favoriten . Ünal began trading with some products from Turkey , as he had discovered their need due to the increase in the migrant population. However, he was the first in Austria to make his breakthrough with the production of Halal meat products. The company name ETSAN is derived from the Turkish "et", translated for meat , and "sanayi" translated for industry .

The company headquarters is at the wholesale market in Vienna-Inzersdorf, where the first logistics warehouse went into operation in 1994 and now serves as a cash & carry store. The wholesale company Macro Group Handels-GmbH, founded in 2001, also belongs to the group of companies . The ETSAN branches and other wholesale customers are supplied by a central logistics warehouse in Bruck an der Leitha .

ETSAN is regarded as a pioneer in the ethno-food trade due to its many years of experience .

Current situation

ETSAN currently operates over 30 branches in Vienna and supplies not only its own supermarkets with its own fleet of vehicles, but also other retailers in Austria, Germany, Slovakia, Hungary and other European countries.

The company received media attention by taking over eight locations of the insolvent food chain Zielpunkt in Vienna. This means that ETSAN has grown like no other company, measured by the number of previously existing own locations.
