EUROPARC Federation is the umbrella organization of European protected areas ( national parks , nature parks , nature reserves and biosphere reserves ). The registered association represents around 400 members in 35 countries and is based in Regensburg (previously Basel and Grafenau).

There is a political office in Brussels and a national section in Berlin Nationale Naturlandschaften e. V.

Members

Members are protected area and national park administrations, state authorities for nature conservation, NGOs and, in some cases, commercial and tourist actors in almost all European countries. The organization cooperates with "sister organizations" in the USA, for example.

In Germany, the nature and national parks, wilderness areas and biosphere reserves have merged to form the National Natural Landscapes .

The organization took part in the PAME project, which examined the effectiveness of protected areas. The organization is a partner of the Wild Europe Initiative.

Long-term programs are the European Charter for Sustainable Tourism , the Junior Ranger Program and the Transboundary Parks Certification Scheme .

The organization awards an Alfred Toepfer Scholarship for young nature conservationists and the Alfred Toepfer Medal to people who have made particular contributions to the protection of European natural heritage.
