The locomotives of Mtk series were tank locomotives of Eesti Vabariigi Raudtee (EVR) with the wheel arrangement C1.

history

The locomotives of the Mtk series were in addition to the steam locomotives of the Uk , Sk , Kk and Kk2 series , the small locomotives of the B series , the combustion engine railcars of the M (No. 11 to 15) , M (No. 16) , DeM , (De) series M and Ro as well as the M series electric multiple units were one of the few new locomotives acquired by EVR during Estonia's first independence .

The triple-coupled superheated steam locomotives were supplied by the Franz Krull (AS Franz Krull) in Tallinn in 1938 and 1939 and were given the road numbers 250 to 255. The locomotives intended for shunting were among the particularly successful developments of EVR. From the beginning, the locomotives also hauled light freight and passenger trains . For the latter, however, the top speed of 50 km / h was relatively low.

After the Soviet occupation of Estonia in 1940, the locomotives initially remained stationed in Tallinn. Before the German troops marched in in 1941 , one of the locomotives, No. 252, was sunk in the harbor basin in Tallinn , along with two other locomotives, Ow 170 and a no longer known T. It was only lifted again in 1947 and put back in place after repairs. Of the remaining five locomotives, at least three, the road numbers 250, 251 and 254, were switched to standard gauge after the German invasion and used alongside three locomotives of the DR class 93 in suburban traffic from Tallinn, after the local electrical operation with the EVR railcars. The M series had been discontinued due to the war. After the war, one of the locomotives, the 254, was found at the railway depot in Reichenbach / Vogtland , from where it was returned to the east as part of the Soviet reparations. The rearranged locomotives were converted back to their original broad gauge after the war. The locomotives ran again on Estonian routes until 1956.
