The EWE gas storage GmbH emerged from the EWE Energie AG, which has transferred the business of gas storage in the EWE gas storage GmbH. It is a wholly-owned subsidiary of EWE AG , which operates as an energy service provider in the field of natural gas storage . The head office is in Oldenburg .

The company has a storage capacity of around 1.9 billion cubic meters of working gas. The storage capacity is distributed among natural gas cavern storage facilities in Oldenburg and in the Berlin area.

Storage locations

The natural gas storage facilities operated by EWE Gasspeicher in Huntorf , Nüttermoor (both near Oldenburg) and Rüdersdorf near Berlin are connected to various transport networks and reach the German market areas (GASPOOL, NetConnect Germany) and the Dutch market ( Title Transfer Facility ).

  • The storage facility in Nüttermoor consists of 21 caverns. Most of the capacity is used to store L-gas ; around a fifth of the capacity is designed for the storage of H-gas .
  • There are seven caverns for storing L-gas in the Huntorf storage facility.
  • In Rüdersdorf, an H-gas cavern storage facility with a cavern went into operation in December 2007. A second cavern with a capacity of approx. 100 million m³ went into operation in October.
  • In Jemgum , EWE Gasspeicher is building a new storage facility that is being built in the same salt dome as the Nüttermoor storage facility. The official commissioning with four caverns and a capacity of 320 million m³ of working gas took place in May 2013. Four more caverns are under construction.
