Earl Cawdor
Earl Cawdor , of Castlemartin in the County of Pembroke , is a hereditary British title in the Peerage of the United Kingdom .
Award and subordinate titles
The title was created on October 6, 1827 for MP John Campbell, 2nd Baron Cawdor . Along with the earl title, he was also the subordinate title Viscount Emlyn , of Emlyn in the County of Carmarthen , bestowed. As early as 1821 he had inherited from his father the title Baron Cawdor , of Castlemartin in the County of Pembroke, awarded to him on June 21, 1796 in the Peerage of Great Britain . He was also the 19th Thane of Cawdor.
The family belongs to the Campbell clan . The Earls' ancestral home is at Cawdor Castle near Cawdor in Nairnshire .
