Earl Jellicoe is a hereditary British title in the Peerage of the United Kingdom .

The Earls' family seat was Tidcombe Manor near Pewsey in Wiltshire .

Award and subordinate titles

The title was created on June 29, 1925 for the famous Commander of the Grand Fleet in the Battle of the Skagerrak and Governor General of New Zealand Admiral of the Fleet John Rushworth Jellicoe, 1st Viscount Jellicoe . Together with the earliest dignity he was given the subordinate title Viscount Brocas , of Southampton in the County of Southampton ; this title is also used as a courtesy title by the respective title heir .

On January 15, 1918, he was raised to Viscount Jellicoe , of Scapa in the County of Orkney . While the titles awarded in 1925 can only pass to male descendants, the title Viscount Jellicoe was awarded in 1918 with the special note that it could also be passed on to daughters of the first earl and their male descendants if there were no male heirs.

Another title

The second earl held several offices in the House of Lords . Therefore, when the House of Lords Act 1999 came into force on November 17, 1999, he was awarded a Life Peerage as Baron Jellicoe of Southampton , of Southampton in the County of Hampshire. He remained a member of the House of Lords.
