Earl Washington (born April 3, 1921 in Chicago - † June 18, 1975 ) was an American jazz pianist .

Earl Washington grew up in Morgan Park in southwest Chicago. He graduated from Morgan Park High School and earned the Chicago Boxing Golden Glove at the age of 14 . During his high school years he played jazz as a pianist, he also took classical piano lessons with Walter Dellers, professor at the Chicago Academy of Music. After graduating from high school, Washington studied at conservatories in Chicago and Boston, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts and Masters. During World War II, he served in the US Navy. After the war he became a member of the Musicians' Union Local 10-208. In 1947 he played in Red Saunders ' band, which performed at Club DeLisa nightclub . In the early 1950s he left the Saunders band and worked in the recording studios of Chicago, Detroit and New York City as a studio musician. He also wrote music for Motown artists and recorded jingles and TV theme songs , including a. with Quincy Jones and Chicago disc jockey Herb Kent from WVON Radio. Washington recorded two LPs for the Motown sub-label Workshop Jazz Motown and several singles for Checker ( Wolf Call ) and Formal ( March Lightly ); He has also worked as a pianist in Chicago's Blue Note Club , the Gaslight Club and the Playboy Club . Shortly before his death, he worked at The Inn Place , teaching jazz piano and teaching jazz history classes at Indiana University . He had six sons with his wife, Dorothy Jean Washington. In the field of jazz, Washington participated in 36 recording sessions between 1947 and 1972.
