Earl of Wicklow
Earl of Wicklow was a hereditary British title in the Peerage of Ireland , which was named after the city or County Wicklow .
History of the title
The title was on December 20, 1793 by King George III. Created for Alice Howard, Dowager Viscountess Wicklow . She was the widow of Ralph Howard, 1st Viscount Wicklow (1726–1789), who came from an Irish branch of the English Howard family and in the Peerage of Ireland on July 21, 1776 to Baron Clonmore , of Clonmore in the County of Carlow , and on June 23, 1785 had been raised to Viscount Wicklow . Both sons, Robert combined all three titles when they died in 1807.
The three titles finally expired on February 8, 1978 when the 9th Earl died.
