EastSiders is an American web series by Kit Williamson about the lives of two gay men in California . It was first broadcast on YouTube in December 2012 . She has been on Netflix since the end of 2017 .

Since launch, the series has received multiple Daytime Emmy Awards nominations and won two Indie Series Awards.

The fourth and final season was first released on December 1, 2019 on Netflix.

The series is set in Silver Lake, Los Angeles and accompanies the photographer Cal and his partner Thom. In the first season, Cal finds out that Thom, with whom he's been in a relationship for four years, is cheating on him with Jeremy. Nevertheless, Cal decides not to end the relationship, in the process Cal also cheats with Jeremy and firmly intends to tell Thom about it - which he does not do. At the same time, Kathy, Cal's best friend, and boyfriend Ian are celebrating their six-month anniversary. This makes the relationship the longest that Kathy has ever had and at the same time the shortest that Ian has had so far.

The first two episodes were released on YouTube in December 2012. The broadcasting rights for the remaining episodes of the first season were secured by the US television station Logo , which published them as a stream on its homepage. Wolfe Video secured the rights for further digital and DVD marketing. For the German market the first season when it was OmU of GMfilms on August 1, 2014 published in length feature film on DVD.

EastSiders premiered the second season on September 15, 2015 on the video-on-demand portal Vimeo .

The entire series was later sold to Netflix , so the first release of the third and fourth seasons was on Netflix, Netflix translated the series into about 30 languages ​​and makes all four seasons available for streaming as OVs.

The first two episodes, published on YouTube, were privately funded by producer Williamson. The remaining episodes of the first season about crowdfunding . The goal of 15,000 US dollars was reached after just four days; when the crowdfunding campaign was closed one month after the start, 25,785 dollars were reached. The second season was also funded through a crowdfunding campaign, the target of 125,000 dollars was exceeded by about 25,000 dollars when the campaign closed.

The series was filmed in Silver Lake, Los Angeles.

Receptions

The French daily Le Monde is particularly enthusiastic about the first season and describes the cast as "absolutely formidable" (absolutely perfect). After the publication of the first two episodes, the US online culture magazine The Daily Dot described the series as "charming, sharply written, and well-acted", with Guarino and Wu receiving particular praise. The German team magazine describes the fourth season as fabulous and states that the appearances of Traci Lords and Bryan Batt as Cal's parents alone are a reason to watch the season.
