Eberhard Schenk zu Schweinsberg

Eberhard Freiherr Schenk zu Schweinsberg (born February 4, 1893 in Darmstadt , † March 29, 1990 in Wiesbaden ) was a German art historian .

Life

Eberhard Schenk zu Schweinsberg was the youngest child of the State Archives Director and regional historian Gustav Schenk zu Schweinsberg (1842–1922). He studied art history, archeology and history in Darmstadt, Munich, Frankfurt, Berlin and Jena and received his doctorate from the University of Jena in 1921 . In 1919 he became a museum assistant in Weimar , and in 1923 curator there. From 1929 to 1934 he was director of the Städtische Galerie in Wiesbaden and head of the Nassau Art Association. From 1934 to 1946 he was director of the ducal institutions for art and science in Gotha. In 1948 he returned to Wiesbaden. He then published in particular on castles and glass art.
