Eberhard Schmidt (process engineer)

Eberhard Schmidt (born August 4, 1960 in Jugenheim , Hessen) is a German process engineer and has been a professor for safety engineering and environmental protection at the Bergische Universität in Wuppertal since 1999 .

Life

Schmidt studied chemical engineering at the University of Karlsruhe (TH) from 1980 to 1985 , which he graduated with a diploma in 1985. He then did his doctorate at the Institute for Mechanical Process Engineering and Mechanics (IMVM) under Friedrich Löffler and completed his doctorate in 1991 with distinction. In 1998 he completed his habilitation in the field of mechanical process engineering .

After completing his habilitation, Schmidt worked for one and a half years at Degussa-Hüls AG in the process engineering department, Particle Technology Department, before taking over the chair in Wuppertal in 1999.

Focus of work

Schmidt mainly deals with the treatment, generation, avoidance and separation of dusts or, more generally, of the smallest solid particles. This includes, for example, the investigation of particle penetration through imperfections in surface filters, the investigation of dust formation when handling powders, the calculation of the adhesive forces of particles, the modeling and simulation of the movement of particulate systems and the flow diagram simulation of solid processes, as well as the Particle separation from gases for emission reduction or product recovery. In addition, Schmidt deals with water treatment using membrane techniques.
