Eburon

The Eburon , also called Eburonium , is a cold complex in the Old Pleistocene and lies between the Tegelen and the Waal warm period . The transition from Tegelen to Eburon sat in front of about 1.78 million years ago one, took 480,000 years to (until 1.3 million years ago) and marks the boundary between both Neogene and Quaternary .

Capture / discovery

In 1957, Zagwijn expanded the previously known warm and cold periods ( Weichsel , Eem , Saale , Holstein , Elster and Cromer ) to include the Menap glacial period , Waal warm period , Eburon glacial period, Tegelen warm period and Prätegelen glacial period. After the initial assumption that there would have been continuous warm or cold periods, it quickly became clear that these are complexes that include both warm and colder periods. The Eburon is divided into four cold sections, each of which is separated by a warmer period.

Climate & vegetation

Very little is known about the climate and vegetation development of the Eburon. The cold period is divided into 7 climatic sections, which differ in their average temperature. As in the cold periods of the Menap cold period and the Tegelen warm period, the average temperature of the Eburon in summer is around 10 ° C and the average annual temperature is −6 to −4 ° C. In the warmer sections of the Eburon, cool coniferous forests spread out, whereas in cold ones, woodless and open vegetation forms.
