Ilídio Pinto Leandro

Ilídio Pinto Leandro (born December 14, 1950 in Rio de Mel, Pindelo dos Milagres parish , São Pedro do Sul district , Portugal ; † February 21, 2020 in Viseu ) was a Portuguese clergyman and Roman Catholic bishop of Viseu in northern Portugal.

Life

Ilídio Pinto Leandro studied philosophy and theology at the Seminário de S. José and received the sacrament of ordination for the diocese of Viseu on December 25, 1973 .

In 1992 he graduated from the Alfonsiana in Rome with a degree in moral theology . From 1992 to 1998 he was professor of moral theology and spiritual at the diocesan seminary in Viseu . From 1993 to 1998 he was also university pastor at the Beiras regional campus of the Catholic University of Portugal , from 1994 to 1998 president of the youth pastoral secretariat and from 1996 to 1999 diocesan assistant for the Institute Caritas Christi . From 1998 to 2005 he was pastor in Canas de Senhorim and from 1999 to 2000 president of the Bishops' Commission for the Young.

On June 10, 2006, Pope Benedict XVI appointed him . to the Bishop of Viseu. The Bishop of Leiria-Fátima , António Augusto dos Santos Marto , donated him episcopal ordination on July 23 of the same year ; Co- consecrators were the Archbishop of Braga , Jorge Ferreira da Costa Ortiga , and the Bishop of Guarda , Manuel da Rocha Felício .

Pope Francis accepted his early resignation on May 3, 2018 for health reasons.
