Echeveria cante is a species of the genus Echeveria ( Echeveria ) in the thick-leaf family(Crassulaceae).

description

Echeveria cante forms unbranched shoots with a length of 10 centimeters and a diameter of 2 to 3 centimeters. The individual leaf rosettes are up to 40 centimeters in diameter. The oblong obovate leaves are pointed and up to 18.5 inches long and 7.2 inches wide. They are up to 6 millimeters thick and the top is flat to concave. The thick white frosted leaves are sometimes tinted lavender and reddish at the edge.

A single to two inflorescences are formed. They are frosted in all parts and cymos-paniculate. They reach a length of 45 to 60 centimeters and have a diameter of about 1 centimeter near the base. About five branches with 4 to 12 individual flowers each are formed. The flower stalks are 2 to 7 millimeters, sometimes up to 17 millimeters long and reach a diameter of 4 millimeters. The ascending sepals are 10 to 15 millimeters long. The corolla is up to 20 millimeters long and has a diameter of 10 to 15 millimeters near the base. It is frosted on the outside and colored orange-pink. The yellowish nectar flakes are tinged pink.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 54.

Distribution and systematics

Echeveria cante is common in Mexico in the state of Zacatecas in the Sierra de Chapultepec between Sombrerete and Fresnillo.

It was first described in 1997 by Charles Edward Glass and Mario Mendoza-García . The plants were often confused with Echeveria subrigida in the past .
