Echinocereus schereri is a species of plant in the genus Echinocereus from the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet schereri honors the German cactus collector Egon Scherer.
description
Echinocereus schereri usually grows individually. The gray-green cylindrical shoots are up to 22 centimeters long and have a diameter of 10 centimeters. There are twelve to eighteen humped ribs . Central spines are not developed. The 21 to 24 comb-like arranged, slightly pink to brownish radial spines are darker pointed and 0.6 to 1.2 centimeters long.
The funnel-shaped flowers are reddish purple in color. They appear near the shoot tips, are 8 to 9 centimeters long and reach 8 to 11 centimeters in diameter. The spherical to egg-shaped, initially green fruits turn brown later.
Distribution, systematics and endangerment
Echinocereus schereri is common in the Mexican state of Durango .
The first description by Gerhard RW Frank was published in 1990.
In the Red List of Threatened Species of the IUCN , the species is called " Data Deficient (DD) ", i. H. with insufficient data.
