Echinopsis arebaloi is a species of the genus Echinopsis in the cactus family(Cactaceae). Thespecific epithet arebaloi honors the Bolivian plant collector Francisco Arebalo, who collected the type specimen.

description

Echinopsis arebaloi forms groups. The spherical, dark green shoots have a sunken apex. With a diameter of 8 to 11 centimeters, they reach heights of 6 to 10 centimeters. There are usually eleven broad and low ribs . The conspicuous, circular areoles on them are felted gray. From them arise twelve to 15 thorns , which cannot be differentiated into peripheral and central spines. The stiff, slender, needle-like, spread, light gray thorns have a brown tip and are 0.5 to 1.5 centimeters long.

The funnel-shaped, white flowers appear near the tip of the shoot and open at night. They become up to six inches long.

Distribution and systematics

Echinopsis arebaloi is widespread near Comarapa in the Bolivian department of Santa Cruz at altitudes of 2000 meters.

The first description by Martín Cárdenas was published in 1956. Echinopsis arebaloi is only insufficiently known and probably only known from the collection of the type specimen .
