Echinopsis baldiana is a species of the genus Echinopsis in the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet baldianua honors J. Baldi, an acquaintance and supporter of Carlos Luis Spegazzini .

description

Echinopsis baldiana grows individually and rarely sprouts. The cylindrical shoots reach heights of 20 to 30 centimeters with diameters of 12 to 15 centimeters. There are 13 to 14 ribs that are not notched. The large areoles on it are gray. Dark brown thorns emerge from them and turn reddish at the bottom. The three to four central spines are up to 5 inches long. The nine to eleven radial spines have a length of up to 1.5 centimeters.

The large white flowers are fragrant. The fruits are 4 to 5 inches long.

Distribution and systematics

Echinopsis baldiana is common in the Argentine province of Catamarca . The type specimen was collected near the city of Ancasti .

The first description by Carlos Luis Spegazzini was published in 1905. Echinopsis baldiana is poorly known and may be synonymous with Echinopsis leucantha .
