Granite chunks on the Eckerlochstieg

The Eckerlochstieg is a hiking trail northwest of the town of Schierke in the Harz in Saxony-Anhalt, which belongs to the city of Wernigerode .

It is part of one of the hiking routes to the Brocken and is located south of the summit. It is the steepest and most impassable of the hiking trails to the Brocken. The Eckerlochstieg leads from the Eckerloch on the Black Schluftwasser over impassable terrain and a steep ascent to the north through the Harz National Park until it meets the Brockenstraße after a little less than a kilometer without any major curves .

In its southern area, the Eckerlochstieg runs parallel to the Black Schluftwasser and crosses a hillside moor . There are large chunks of granite on the path, which is only suitable for pedestrians . The path was rebuilt in 1997. Footbridges were laid through the boggy areas, and stairs lead over larger cliffs.
