Eckert is a very small, remote impact crater in the northern part of the Mare Crisium . It forms a circular pit in the dark surface of the surrounding mare . To the west, the outlines of a sea ridge can be seen on the surface , which, however, only emerge clearly when the sunlight falls at an angle. Craters of some importance nearby are in the west-northwest direction Peirce and in the southwest Picard . These two craters are also located in the Mare Crisium basin .
