Corner head tower

The corner head tower is a 25 m high observation tower on the eponymous 516  m above sea level. NHN high corner head . The tubular steel structure clad with wood was erected in 1975 and inaugurated in July of that year.

107 steps lead up to the tower's observation deck . It has a height of 541  m above sea level. NN and offers a good all-round view - to the west, south and north over the Palatinate Forest , to the east over the Upper Rhine Plain . There is a restaurant below the tower.

The tower had two previous structures. The first was built in 1891 and collapsed in a storm in 1920. The second had the newly formed community of Deidesheim built in 1973; it was a purely wooden structure that was destroyed by arson just 14 months after completion. The current building was then built with the money that the insurance company had to pay after the fire damage.

Federal President Karl Carstens visited the Eckkopf Tower in 1982 .
