Ed Doemland

Edward Lee "Ed" Doemland (born February 5, 1938 in Chicago ; † August 11, 2012 ) was an American composer , organist and jazz pianist .

Doemland took piano lessons from Edna Nelson Hanson as a child in Chicago . He then took music theory lessons from Perry Crafton and percussion lessons from Jake Jerer . From 1955 to 1958 he studied chemistry at Lawrence College and then taught chemistry at Freeport High School in Illinois (1959-1963) and West Allis Central High School (1963-2003). In addition, he worked from 1959 to 1963 at the Grace Episcopal Church in Freeport and then until his death at the St. Peters Episcopal Church in West Allis as an organist.

Doemland also performed repeatedly as a jazz pianist and was a percussionist with the Milwaukee Civic Orchestra since 1965 . He composed a. a. a symphony for large jazz ensemble (1959), pieces for percussion ensemble and church music, including jazz pieces for church music use. In 2012 the Civic Music Association honored him with the Lifetime Achievement in Music Award .
