Ed Fries

Edward "Ed" Fries (* 1964 in Bellevue , Washington ) is an American manager , consultant and game developer .

Career

From 1986 to 2004, Fries was Vice President of Microsoft . There he developed the first Office products before he initiated Microsoft Game Studios and was significantly involved in the development of the Xbox . Microsoft Games Studios grew under him from 50 to over 1200 employees and published over 100 computer games. He works as a consultant for the Android console Ouya and the games company Animoca Brands . In the 1980s, he began developing computer games for the Atari 800 . Fries studied computer science at the New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology . From 1986 to 2004 he worked for Microsoft. Since February 2006 he has been on the Board of Commissioners of the Smithsonian American Art Museum and advisor to Animoca Brands .

Fries collects old computers and was able to rediscover the world's first ROM from a Gran Trak 10 machine in 2018 .
