Edward Lay (born February 20, 1981 in Ipswich , United Kingdom ) is a British musician and drummer for the band Editors .

Ed Lay played the drum in a marching band at a young age and got into drums through a school friend. He met his current bandmates while studying music technology at Staffordshire University . Although often named as a member of the band from the very beginning, Ed Lay replaced Geraint Owen as drummer at an early stage in the band's history. Ed Lay made his live debut with the band in March 2003, with this new line-up they initially operated under the name Snowfield. After completing their studies, the band moved into a house in Birmingham in autumn 2003 and aimed at a career as professional musicians. This took shape from 2004, so that the band members gave up their respective part-time jobs in order to devote themselves entirely to music.

Ed Lay plays on Zildjian and Sonor instruments . He can also be heard occasionally in the background vocals, on the “In Dream” tour he showed up at the start of the show on the synthesizer .
