Ed Warby (born March 7, 1968 in Rotterdam ) is a Dutch drummer . He became known as a band member of Gorefest and a studio musician for Ayreon .

At the age of twelve, Ed Warby received his first drum kit from his parents. Ed Warby describes the discovery that the drummer Cozy Powell used not one but two bass drums as a crucial point in his career .

In 1982 Ed Warby founded the band Agressor . After the band split up, he played for various local formations in Rotterdam and in 1987 joined the Dutch power metal band Elegy . After the Elegy debut album Labyrinth of Dreams , he replaced Marc Hoogendoorn at Gorefest in 1992. He became aware of Arjen Lucassen in 1998 and engaged him in the following time for various recordings for the Ayreon project. Warby played almost all the drum parts on the Ayreon albums, including the new recording for Actual Fantasy . Warby also worked on other Arjen Lucassen projects such as Star One andThe Gentle Storm with. From 2006 to 2017 Warby was a member of the death metal band Hail of Bullets , with whom he released three studio albums. In 2016 Warby founded the band Vuur together with the former The Gathering singer Anneke van Giersbergen .

From 2004 to 2007, Warby was voted best drummer in the Benelux countries four times in a row by Slagwerkwereld drum magazine .
