Eduard "Eddy" Willem Treijtel (born May 23, 1946 in Rotterdam ) is a former Dutch football player .

Career

Treijtel began his career in his hometown as a youth player with the Rotterdam clubs Schiebroek and Xerxes . At Xerxes he spent his first years in the senior sector until he moved to Feyenoord Rotterdam in 1968 together with Wim van Hanegem .

At Feyenoord he celebrated his greatest successes by winning the 1970 World Cup against Estudiantes de la Plata and the 1974 UEFA Cup against Tottenham Hotspur .

In 1979 he moved to AZ Alkmaar . There he reached the final of the UEFA Cup again in 1981 . Alkmaar lost to Ipswich Town in the overall standings after two games with a 3-0 defeat in the first leg and a 4-2 win in the second leg in Amsterdam .

In 1985 Eddy Treijtel ended his active career.

Internationally, Treijtel played five times for the Dutch national team between 1969 and 1976 . He was in the squad of the Netherlands at the football World Cup in 1974 in Germany , where he was not used.

Trivia

Eddy Treijtel became known beyond football when he hit a seagull with the ball he struck off during a game between Feyenoord and Sparta Rotterdam on November 15, 1970 , which then fell dead to the ground.
