Areas of application

Solid precious wood is often used as a material for works of art (e.g. sculptures), but also for jewelry and everyday objects that are supposed to create grace and appreciation (e.g. fine tobacco pipes ).

Precious wood is also often processed into veneer . This is used for veneering furnishings and fittings, for automobile interiors and for decorative elements ( inlays ) in pieces of furniture and is processed in a variety of ways.

For musical instruments , selected precious woods are used according to special criteria, whereby the tonal aspect is in the foreground. In the case of the piano and especially in organs, besides decorative veneer, it is mainly black ebony for high-quality keyboards. In organs in particular, precious wood elements are built into the prospectus area for decoration. High quality woodwind instruments are often made of grenadilla or rosewood, such as clarinet , oboe or bassoon .

A large number of automobile brands offer fine wood trim as an optional feature. Only a few companies worldwide are active in this highly specialized and very lucrative decorative parts market for the requirements of automobile manufacturers. The most important of them are based in Germany. Since the sustained demand for vehicle interiors with real wood trim parts cannot easily be met for reasons of cost, trim strips made of wood-look imitation are used for cheaper vehicle equipment.
