The Edelhof in mid-summer

Geographical location

The Edelhof is on Schenksberg, the western end of the small village in the Unstrut area .

history

The important building was built in 1243, according to tradition it was once built as a moated castle and later served for centuries as a mansion for various noble families . The former knight's seat was then owned by the noble lords of Husen. However, the estate was not registered in writing , but was ultimately only an official manor , which was subordinate to the Langensalza office .

After several landowners (e.g. the von Dachröden family ), the manor was transferred to the von Feilitsch family in 1807, who sold the estate for 20,000 thalers to a consortium of 10 inhabitants from mid-summer. With the sale of the lands of the knight's estate, the community of Mittelömmern acquired the manor house in 1831 and used it from then on for communal purposes. The interiors on the ground floor and the first floor have been used as a restaurant and cultural space for the community since the 19th century . In 1912, on the occasion of the wedding of the village mayor's daughter, the community hall was added.

Due to the preservation of monuments , a reconstruction of the facade could be made since the 1940s. "Thepra eV" took over the Edelhof in 1996 for restoration and conversion. This was intended to ensure that this cultural and historical building is also preserved for posterity and that it is used in an economically sensible way.

The name "Edelhof" only came up in the 19th century. The former manor house can be visited on the Open Monument Day .

architecture

The three-storey building consists of approx. One meter thick quarry stone masonry on the ground floor and first floor . The other floors were built in their current form between 1558 and 1560 as a half-timbered building with richly decorated thresholds , frames and rosettes . The post structure is partly built from oak beams with a cross-section of 35 by 35 cm. On the south side of the roof there are two small houses as decorative elements, which from their internal arrangement were probably used as servants' quarters. Each column is kept with tightly connecting struts and a carved, sun-like palmette is attached over these 3 pieces of wood . Also worth seeing is the structurally well-preserved small room with a cross vault , which is said to have served as the house chapel of the family. A reconstruction of the facade has been carried out since the 1940s through monument preservation . The roof and the vertical dwarf gable give the old building a stately appearance and are reminiscent of the former glory and wealth of the von Hausen's family.
