The Eden Theater was an early Lübeck cinema .

Central biographer

In December 1903, Wilhelm Stark had acquired the house at Mühlenstrasse 21, on the corner of Königstrasse , and opened a furniture store here. Due to economic difficulties, he closed the business in December 1909 and instead set up a 150-seat cinema in the premises, which was opened in January 1910 under the name Central-Biograph .

The audience for the new cinema, which had to assert itself against the three established cinemas Tonhalle , Metropol and Biophon , was low. A commission from the high school authorities that inspected the Lübeck cinemas in the spring of 1910 reported the low number of visitors and the obtrusive, loud music accompanying an electric piano . During the breaks , the commission noted, the gramophone squealed .

In March 1910 bankruptcy proceedings were opened against Stark.

Eden theater

The cinema was taken over by Jenny Bendung , who reopened it on March 19 under the new name Eden Theater . Regular cinema operations continued until the summer. In October the building was auctioned and the new owner rented it again to a furniture dealer.
