Edgar Knecht
Edgar Knecht (born January 4, 1964 in Winterberg ) is a German jazz musician ( piano , composition ).
Live and act
Knecht initially had classical training in piano (Hellmuth Vivell) and flute (Eleonore Kluge). Since his early youth he has performed his own works for piano and various ensembles. Then he studied with Wolfgang Köhler , Jorge Guarin and Klaus Ignatzek .
Knecht wrote numerous compositions for theater, film and television (including for Oscar winner Thomas Stellmach , ZDF, Systhema Verlag Munich and Dudenverlag Mannheim). His debut album Good Morning Lilofee (2009), which he presented with his trio, impressed with its unique folk song arrangements. His second album Dance on Deep Waters (2013) reached the top 30 of the German jazz charts.
His project Keys to Friendship with the Syrian musician Aeham Ahmad received the Creole Festival Prize for the best world music from Germany in 2017 ; the album made it to the longlists for the German Record Critics Award . Personal Sessions (2019), which he recorded with his trio, which was expanded to include Frederik Köster , was named “Jazz Album of the Week”.
